The Bangkok International Tattoo Convention 2010

Bangkok International Tattoo Convention 2010

The Bangkok International Tattoo Convention will be held this weekend,  January 15th, 16th & 17th,  at the Impact Muang Thong Thani Hall 9 and looks to be quite a considerable event. Billed as Bangkok’s first ever international tattoo convention they will be in good company as Thailand has had a few successful  international tattoo festivals before in Bangkok and Pattaya hosted by none other than world renown Thai tattoo artist Jimmy Wong. The success of these previous events will surely add to the hype of this one.

Featured will be tattoo masters from around the world such as: (click on the photos for more info on the artists)

If you are planning on getting any ink done then you definitely want to get in early if you want to book time with any of these artists because I am positive that their schedule will be filled within the first few hours of the convention and with their styles of work I’m sure time will be very limited.

The tattoo convention will also feature a tattoo competition, all sort’s of vendors and merchants and live performances by Thyruz, a black metal act from Norway and Thai Reggae artist Zom Ammara. You can click on the pics below to get a taste of their respective works.

This is surely the tattoo event of the year so you don’t want to miss it.  Entrance fees are 500 baht for a single day and 1200 baht for all three days. The convention will run each day from 11 am – 8pm. You can click the poster below to go to the conventions web site for more detailed information.

Talen, although I am not a big fan of this form of body art even I have to admit some of the artists work is fantastic.

    Do you like tattoos yourself?

Mike, I do like tattoos when they are at this level. I have one myself but plan on visiting Jimmy Wong’s studio next time in Bangkok.

I’m also very interested in getting a Monk spiritual tattoo.

Oh man it sucks I’m gonna miss this it looks like it will be an awesome convention. Talen if you do go for the Monk spiritual tattoo you’ll have to let me know where you got it done and what you think…it’s something I have been interested in doing for a couple years now, just never took the time out of our busy schedule when we’re in Thailand.

Steve, it’s been something I have been thinking about for a while and there are several places I might go to look into it. One is at Wat Phra That Phanome.

Talen I will go along with exactly what Mike has said and it can’t be an English thing because there’s plenty of tattooed people walking around over here. I do have a tattoo myself but it’s smallish and on the back of my leg. The art work is fantastic but putting so much on one body is for me a little unattractive. Still I’ve not doubt the convention will be a big success as the people turn up to see some really talented artists who are at the top of their field.

Martyn, I have a small tattoo myself on my upper arm and while I do intend on getting more I would never tattoo half my body or even much that would even be seen by anyone.

I am totally chicken, so no tattoos for me. I watched a lovely Thai lass get a tattoo recently and she did not flinch. She was being held by people flanking her, but it was not needed as she was totally calm, in total control.

I will echo previous sentiments – some of the skin art shown could just as well be on canvas and hanging in the Louvre.

Unfortunately, most of the tattoos I see on beautiful Thai women are kwai tramp stamps of the type shown on this poor girl.

At best it is just ugly, at worst it is indicative of some severe psychological instability.

I have to agree Chuck…there is nothing worse than seeing a beautiful Thai girl with a hideous tattoo across her chest or stomach.

John, this link will definitely give you some more info on the tattoos. There quite a few place you can have them done. To me it would be finding the right temple and the right monk to perform the ritual.

talen yes very true its not just the tattoo that is the consideration the monk and the temple and my own feelings should drive what i have done
the meaning should be more then just a whim as i dont wont 10 years down the line to regret my decision

John, either way I think ten years down the road with a spiritual tattoo you’d be ok with it.

Now if you decided to get a full back piece of Brittney Spears when she shaved her head then you might regret it :)
